New Zealand 2018

Jim & Patty Marlett and Carol & Hal Cumberland spent six weeks exploring New Zealand and southern Australia with stops in Honolulu coming and going. Our three weeks in New Zealand took us the length of both islands, beginning with Auckland in the north and ending with Steward Island in the south. We flew from Wichita to Dallas to Honolulu on January 10, then to Auckland the next day. From there we rented a car and explored the north island, ending in Wellington. The ferry took us across Cook Strait to Picton on the south island. We rented another car and drove to Christchurch via Kaikoura along the east coast. We took the Tranzalpine train across the Southern Alps to Greymouth on the west coast. By car we drove south and explored the Franz Josef and Fox Glaciers, then crossed the Haast Pass to Queenstown. On to Te Anau and Milford Sound, part of Fiordlands National Park. Then further south to Invercargill. We flew to Steward Island for one night, then returned to Invercargill. On February 2 we flew from Invercargill to Christchurch to Auckland to Melbourne, Australia to begin the second half of our journey.
